Appreciation Certificates Proudly showing their Awards for fundraising are left to right: Collin Pullan MBE Chairman of Take Heart, Christina from Dan Aid, Ms Julie Warne Headteacher at The City School with Alec Mclean Treasurer of Take Heart. Take Heart News Dec 2006 No.107 Ms Anderson's son Daniel was born with a heart problem and spent considerable time at the Yorkshire Heart Centre. When Daniel was ill his family made use of the Take Heart facilities during that time. Daniel died when he was 17 not from his heart condition but from an infection caused by having his body pierced. Ms Anderson has started a campaign called Dan Aid to make the public aware of the dangers of body piercing and prevent other young people from dying in the same tragic circumstances as her son. During the course of her lectures and workshops she works tirelessly for Take Heart and has so far raised over £1476.93 Daniel was a student at The City School and also a member of a band. The school have an annual battle of the bands as a fund raising event and on the 18th May 2006 £383 was raised by staff and students. Ms Anderson has organised a petition requesting the Government to introduce laws to regulate the Body Piercing Industry. This will be presented to Tony Blair when they have reached 5000 signatures. We presented plaques of appreciation to both for the monies they had raised for our charity. Alec McLean Treasurer of Take Heart |

| THE PHOENIX Issue No.12 The City School Newsletter Nov 30th 2006 Dan Aid Daniel was a student at The City School and left five years ago. He was a lively and popular student with staff and students and we were devastated when we heard of Dan's death from septicaemia resulting from a body piercing. When Ms Anderson spoke to me about her campaign it was very natural that we should become involved. Since 2003 Ms Anderson has been delivering workshops to all our students during PSHE lessons on the dangers of body piercings. Her mission is to prevent other young people dying in the same tragic circumstances as Dan. Ms Anderson and her family participated in our annual Battle of the Bands competition in May this year and organised a raffle with prizes which included a guitar signed by known celebrities, £383 was raised by staff and students on the evening. Altogether the Dan Aid campaign has raised £1476.93 for charity. The money has been donated to Take Heart, a registered charity that supports patients and their families who are recieving treatment at the Yorkshire Heart Centre, situated at the Leeds General Infirmary. Daniel spent considerable time there when he was ill and his family made use of the centre during that time. Mr Colin Pullan, MBE Chairman and Mr Alec McLean, Treasurer of take heart came into school on Wednesday 22nd November to present awards to Ms Anderson and the school. Many of our staff and students have signed a petition, organised by the Anderson family, requesting the government to introduce laws to regulate the Body Piercing Industry.
