The aim of this website is to help raise awareness and highlight the lack of
Government control over the Body Piercing Industry, to challenge and to change attitudes through education and to make it a safer and a more controlled practice

Effectively body pieircing can result in someone's death and there is very little awareness about this.
Some body piercer's will peirce anyone regardless of their age this could be seen as an offence if under 18.
There are laws governing tattooing and ear piercing but currently
not for body piercing.

It is common place in this country to see Body Piercing premises on the high street.
Some even practice alongside a qualified and licensed tattooist.
REMEMBER BODY PIERCERS ARE NOT PROFFESIONAL,  DON'T ALWAYS NEED
TO REGISTER OR HAVE A LICENCE TO PRACTICE AND REQUIRE NO QUAIFICATION

You can be pierced at a rock concert, on the beach or even at the local night club. The risk of infection must be
paramount in these places, as they could be handling money and piercing without any thought for cleanliness.

Please consider these points carefully if you are considering this procedure

THINK BEFORE YOU ACT!!

What We Have Achieved With The Campaign So Far

Since Daniel's death we have campaigned tirelessly for a change in the law.
We have spoken out about our concerns, giving many interviews to several newspapers including;
Sheffield Star, Yorkshire Post,  Sun,  Daily Mirror,  Sunday Mirror, The Mail and the Weekly News.
We have also given interviews to Woman, Best, Reveal and the music magazine Kerrang!
We had an article in the Real Life mag that goes into secondary schools and also had an article in the
Collins Revision Guide GCSE English AQA Specification A. Meg Munn included an article about our
campiagn in her news letter and puts all her work and achievements so far with us on her website.
We have been interviewed many times throughout our campaign and have also took part in
programmes dealing with the growing concerns concerning the body piercing industry within
the UK, including; Sky News, Chanel Five News, BBC Look North, Calendar News, ITV's Attitude,
the BBC's Politics and Inside Out programmes, Channel 4's Richard and Judy Show
ITV's This Morning Show and the BBC Three programme, "When Beauty Goes Wrong"

We have also been on Local, National and International Radio News. We are working hard to help to make
body piercing safer and more controlled and also to make sure that a similar tragedy doesn't happen again.
Christina, Daniel's mum has spoken about her concerns to her local MP Meg Munn in Sheffield, and
she has recieved a lot of support for the Dan Aid campaign from both Meg and Megs PA Mike Harrison.
Daniel's story has also been used in the argument for stricter policies for Body Piercing in
The House Of Commons (see press release on this site), both from Meg Munn and Madeleine Moon MP.

We presented our petition to the Prime Minister, Gordon Brown,
@ no 10 Downing Street, London on 24th June 2008

The Changes We Would Like To See

We would like piercists to be educated, properly informed and well trained and to have a nationally
recognized qualification possibly at NVQ level 3. Piercists need to prove they are competent to do the job.
We would like to see warning signs in the studio's highlighting the possible health risks from body piercing.
We would also argue that the age limit should be the same as Tattooing this being 18. We feel this would
protect youngsters from the rogue piercers who disregard the age of the child and would make the whole
industry more adult based which would surely make it a much stricter, better controlled and safer practice.

An indepth questionaire and a better verbal and written understanding of the possible serious
consequences of infections by both parties. If this had happened in the studio Dan went to he would
never have gone through with it. Dan deserved all the facts, he wasn't ever made aware of the health issues.
All body piercers have a moral responsibility to discuss these issues clearly with each individual client.
This is absoloutely neccesary as many young people are not aware of the effect a serious infection can
have on the body especially if you have any compromising and underlying health problems going on.
Dan was fully aware of his heart condition, he always gave careful consideration where a situation
arose and he was always thoughtful about his health. He would never had put himself at risk.
Ultimatly Dan would still be here with us today.

The public have a right to all the facts so they can make a more well informed decision. Also in the long run
we hope that we can help make the case for the government to bring in compulsory guidelines across the
whole country. So that all studios have to be registered and licensed so they uphold the very best cleanliness
and hygeine standards and keep to health and safety laws and regulations. Not voluntary guidelines in place
at present. We hope to reduce the risk of this happening to anyone else. As adults we must acknowledge
that we each have a duty and a responsibility to protect our vunerable, innocent and most precious children.
Our Workshop News

We put a workshop together over two years ago and are currently taking it into our local secondary schools.
This has been a huge success and has really inspired us to keep going with the campaign.
We have had tremendous support from many head teachers, teachers and the students themselves
who have also been very supportive. There is very little information out there for these young people
and educating them at an early age does seem to be helping them to understand that although this is seen
as something cool and trendy and part of the teenage lifestyle at the moment it is not without risk and some
people will be more at risk than others especialy if they are already predisposed to any health condition.
We do need all the Local Health Authorities across the country to act quickly and use the power
given to them in the 2003 Government Act to regulate and license these premises.
We handed our petition to Mr Brown on 24th June 2008 urging him to do so.

Christina's Statement 11/11/05

When Daniel died no-one beleived it was caused by his
simple lip piercing.

Today has been a triumph and hopefully a turning point for the whole family.

My hope for this inquest was that I would recieve some answers to the many questions I have
about how my son died. I am grateful to Mr Dorries for his very thorough investigation,
which has provided me with many of these answeres, although there will always be some
unresolved issues and concerns about the events leading up to Daniel's death.

The inquest has dealt with the question of body-piercing and the risks it poses. I hope that this,
and the wider attention the inquest has recieved, will cause anyone considering undergoing
body-piercing to stop and think twice about those risks before deciding whether to go ahead or not.

I have spent more than two years trying to educate teenagers about these risks and will
continue to do so through my school workshops and through my website www.danaid.com
We will continue campaigning and are hopeful that in time we can help make the case
for all body piercers to be qualified through education courses and for all councils
to regulate body piercing studios. This needs to be a priority so that in time it becomes
a  law and not just a recommendation. Helping to protect many more young lives.
WOW!
We are very pleased to announce that we handed our petition to the
Prime Minister Gordon Brown on Tuesday 24th June 2008
requesting him to urge all local Health Authorities to implement the
new Bylaw to help regulate the body piercing industry.
Our total signature count is;
3,946
A very special THANK YOU to everyone who signed our petition
There is currently;
No legal governing body in the UK over the Body Piercing Industry
No government recognized qualifications for Body Piercers
No compulsory guidelines in place for Body Piercing
